Former Kenyan Premier League champions, AFC Leopards have rubbished claims of a depleted team and rumours of head coach Patrick Aussems ditching the FKF Premier League bigwigs.
Reports have been making rounds indicating Ingwe has remained with a handful of players and technical staff after its first team key players left for other clubs locally and abroad owing to difficult financial situation at the den.
However, in a club update released on Thursday, Leopards’ National Executive Committee has confirmed that all is well ahead of the league opener against holders Tusker FC on Sunday.
“Contrary to reports doing rounds on social media and sections of the press, the club has adequate playing staff and technical personnel preparing for the new season that kicks off on Sunday, September 26, 202,” the statement reads in part.
“The club would also like to dispel rumours that the head coach Patrick Aussems has left the club. The coach has a valid contract with the club and has been heavily involved in the pre – season training. The coach himself sends his greeting to Ingwe fans and is looking forward to welcoming you all in the stadium as soon as possible.
The NEC has further stated that it will make players’ welfare a priority and put efforts to raise a decent team to compete in all competitions this season as the club seeks to win a first silverware since 2017.
“The club is also aware that we have lost a number of players after we failed to agree on contractual aspects. We wish the players all the best in their future engagements. However, our focus is on the group of dedicated players in the camp and we are working tirelessly to ensure that their welfare is at the forefront of our season planning.
“Due to the FIFA transfer ban, we have not been active in the transfer window however our technical team has been working on a solution to raise quality and competitive team that will battle for honours in the coming season.”
New FKF Premier League season commences on Saturday, 25th September at different venues nationwide.
