The statement issued by Raphael Tuju said in part: “Some of them were negotiating with the other side and needed this document for purposes of benchmarking, and since we knew this from our intelligence, there was no reason to continue to engage them. Mutua was a UDA mole in Azimio”.
But was Mutua alone? Later in the day PAA Party leader Amason Jaffa Kingi also decamped and there has been talk in the grapevine that another “big fish” is set to decamp on Tuesday.
Executive Director of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Secretariat Raphael Tuju made a statement on Dr. Mutua.
When giving his reasons for decamping Dr. Alfred Mutua said: “Politics is a matter of where one can best serve his interests. For now, Kenya Kwanza Alliance is where Maendeleo Chap Chap’s vision can be met and Dr. Ruto the best candidate to serve as forthcoming president of the Republic of Kenya”.
Before he left Mutua was involved in perpetual grumbling about how his party was sidelined, he took it up on his social media handle whining and causing discontent among other players in the 23-party strong Azimio camp.
The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya running mate selection panel sitting at Serena Hotel on Monday 9 May 2022.
Mutua has not been alone in agitating for a bigger share of the cake. For some reason, another Azimio politician has been agitating that he owns the right to deputize for Raila as his running mate.
Curiously these claims of “ownership” by Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to the running mate slot are backed by the Kenya Kwanza camp. Why Kenya Kwanza should have a stake in Kalonzo deputizing for Raila is still a mystery but on Tuesday the former Vice President together with Kitui Governor Charity Kaluki Ngilu and others are set to appear before the vetting panel.
The latest reports indicate that the Wiper leader has reconsidered his options and will be appearing before the interview panel at Serena Hotel.
Had Kalonzo refused to present himself before the panel today no doubt he would have been seen as a turncoat and one of the alleged “big fish” UDA Party moles in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
