The Kenya Power & Lighting Company switched off supply across the country disrupting the 2022 Presidential Debate.
The event held within the Pope John Paul II auditorium at Catholic University was graced by one contestant Deputy President Dr. William Samoei Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance Party. His fellow debate contestant was Raila Amollo Odinga of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party who had indicated by Sunday through a press release that he will be giving the event, a wide berth.
An earlier session pitying Waihigwa Mwaure of Agano Party versus Prof George Wajackoyah also saw one contestant turn up as the latter insisted he would only participate if allowed on the same platform with Ruto and Raila.
The event which is going on has been reduced to a social media affair with YouTube and radio channels continuing with its airing.
A joker posted the above video clip purporting what would be happening at Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party headquarters.
As the session began the DP was responding to a question by moderator Yvonne Okwara Matole on Poverty Alleviation when the power went off.
“We have put into place KES 2 billion…..,” the DP was saying when he was cut off mid-sentence from television screens across the country. Those who had the privilege to hear out the DP said in a typical fashion he claimed to have worked with President Uhuru Kenyatta in achieving the development record of the Jubilee government but quickly disassociated himself from its failures.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Power & Lighting Company had sent out a notice of undertaking scheduled repairs that would result in a blackout in the following areas:
Perhaps the DP thought appearing alone at the Presidential Debate would add leverage to his presidential bid. However, what came out was that someone with more muscle than Ruto is flexing them ahead of the 9 August poll.
