As the clock ticks on the homestretch of the 2022 presidential campaigns and Raila Odinga’s march to State House seems unstoppable, DP William Ruto was caught weeping at a joint prayer meeting in his Karen residence.
By Tuesday 2 August two reliable opinion polls; one by Ipsos and the other by Nation Media Group both gave the doyen of Kenya’s opposition politics Raila Odinga a comfortable lead of approximately 6%.
In total Raila has vied for the presidency for 20 years. He vied unsuccessfully four times, in 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2017. If 2007, when he believed he had won the race against the incumbent Mwai Kibaki, put more wind behind his sail, 2022 is turbo-charging the hell out of him.
It is the 2022 attempt that is more credible, better coordinated and embraces the so-called Deep State that always considered him an outsider.
On the other hand this was Ruto’s first attempt to vie for the presidency. Historically Dr. Ruto is a political student of Raila Odinga and he put in a good fight, all matters considered.
During the prayer service conducted by Bishop Mark Kariuki of Deliverance Church the DP openly wept.
Also in attendance were Kenya Kwanza Alliance bigwigs as well as Rachel Ruto the would-have-been First Lady.
A mollified Ruto asked Kenyans to vote in the right candidate, avoid bloodshed and keep united.
