President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta warned the people of Mount Kenya against voting for his deputy Dr. William Ruto.
In a passionate plea, the president told the people of Nyeri and Muranga where he launched state projects that they risked being left out of government if they did not vote for Raila Odinga, the Azimio candidate.
“Believe me or not, the game will be won by Raila and Martha. Ensure you elect leaders under the Azimio coalition,” Mr. Kenyatta said in Nyeri as he officially opened the Mwai Kibaki Hospital.
The president debunked the myth that he planned to cling to power by propagating the Building Bridges Initiative proposals.
DP Ruto (arms raised) with Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who is also his running mate during their last campaign.
However, shortly afterward Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who is also Dr. Ruto’s running mate launched a scathing attack on the president claiming that his interest was not exclusively for the welfare of Mount Kenya. “The president is protecting the vast property of the Kenyatta family and has built a KES 3.4 billion Railway line to his farm”, said Gachagua in a post on social media.
According to the IEBC directive, the campaign period ended by midnight Saturday 6 August.
Gachagua’s response to Uhuru who is not vying for any seat cannot be considered campaign propaganda. Gachagua who was once President Uhuru’s Assistant has a deep-seated hatred for the monumental wealth of the Kenyatta family although he has failed to verify how he made billions within a decade from a lowly civil servant’s employment background.
Kenya is poised for another epic transition of government after the General Elections slated for 9 August 2022. As a role model in democracy and respect for government institutions on the African continent, all eyes are trained on the country.
The outgoing president Uhuru Kenyatta has openly been campaigning for opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga against his deputy Dr. William Ruto whom he repeatedly branded corrupt.
