President Dr. William Samoei Ruto will this week meet with his nemesis Raila Amollo Odinga at the Leadership Summit to be held in Washington DC.

The meeting will bring together Heads of State from around the globe. Raila Odinga will be attending the meeting in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development.

Both leaders have been invited by American President Joe Biden.

Kenyans have gone on a speculation trail thinking that the meeting will be attempting to resolve the impasse between Ruto and Raila.

Lately, the duo has come to loggerheads with Raila and his Azimio supporters threatening to hold parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations that are scheduled for today 12 December. Raila, however, called off the proposed rally citing his engagement in the United States of America.

Raila threatened to hold parallel Jamhuri Day celebrations.

He flew out on Saturday and will be joined by President Ruto who will leave the country after presiding over Jamhuri Day celebrations.

Dr. Ruto has cleverly eaten into Raila’s traditional support bases by marshaling governors and legislators allied to Azimio to support his government.

One of Raila’s staunchest supporters, COTU Secretary-general Francis Atwoli was at hand to receive Dr. Ruto last week when he paid a call in Western Kenya.

Die-hard supporters of the opposition chief are still clinging to hopes that President Ruto may acquiesce to some form of a “handshake”.
