Azimio leader Raila Odinga said today that his resuscitated efforts to fight against the announcement by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission are to safeguard institutional independence.
“I don’t do it for Raila,” the opposition leader said while addressing Azimio legislators in Nairobi on Wednesday, adding, “I do it to uphold the independence of our institutions. Right now [President] Ruto wants to appoint Commissioners of IEBC single-handedly. Raila may not even be there in 2027 but we cannot stand by and allow the country to go in that direction.”
The ODM Party maestro referred to Deputy President Gachagua in derogatory terms and said he was celebrating nothing but the opportunity to loot the economy.

Meanwhile Jubilee Party Secretary-general, Jeremiah Kioni released figures allegedly provided by an IEBC whistleblower that indicated Raila Odinga won in the August poll with a whopping 57.53 percent of the total votes. Azimio is said to have polled 8,170,355 votes against UDA’s 5,915,975 votes.
The whistleblower has provided a new impetus to the Azimio team with a resurgent of calls to reassess the whole presidential vote tallying process.
Wafula Chebukati giving evidence under oath at the Justice Muchelule-led tribunal.
Yesterday while giving evidence under oath before the Justice Muchelule-led tribunal, former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati claimed that two high-powered delegations approached him to subvert the will of the people by announcing Raila as the winner in the August poll. Questioned by Counsel appearing for Commissioner Irene Masit, Donald Kipkorir, Chebukati failed to maintain lucidity as to which results was he going to announce a Raila win when the tallying was not even complete.
Before meeting the Azimio leaders in Nairobi, Raila on Wednesday morning condoled with the family of former Education CS Prof. George Magoha.
