Governor Gladys Atieno Wanga and her deputy who is also the Chief Executive Member in charge of Agriculture, Joseph Oyugi Magwanga have officially flagged off the county-wide farmer registration exercise.

The exercise, which is being conducted by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), is scheduled to take 21 days and targets to register 500,000 farmers in the entire county.

Speaking to farmers after witnessing the registration exercise on the first day, Governor Wanga urged farmers to take the exercise very seriously and to turn out in large numbers for registration.

“Resource allocation will be based on the data collected, that is why we call upon all farmers to register,” she said.

H.E Governor Gladys Wanga engages one of the enumerators during the launch of the county-wide farmers registration exercise on Monday.

Hon. Magwanga on his part pledged to ensure the exercise is carried out effectively and efficiently.

The registration exercise is being conducted by chiefs and their assistants in all the 40 wards of Homa Bay County. Farmers are required to provide their names, ID numbers, locations of their farms, and the crops they grow.

The data collected will be used to develop a database of farmers in the county, which will be used to improve agricultural planning and service delivery.

The registration exercise is part of the county government’s efforts to boost agricultural production and food security in Homa Bay County.
