A Nairobi court has gone ahead and issued a warrant of arrest for Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang.
This comes despite threats by the Trans Nzoia Senator and his Langata MP counterpart Felix Odiwuor issuing a letter threatening to sue blogger Cyprian Nyakundi and Royal Media Services-owned Citizen Digital for defamation. On Tuesday both news websites carried an article implicating Zaheer Jhanda (Nyamira MP), Jalang’o and Chesang in a fake gold deal worth hundreds of millions.
The youthful legislators are in the limelight for the first time as associating with the Nairobi wash-wash gangs. The senator was previously implicated in a KES 1 billion worth tender for the supply of refurbished laptops.
Although Jalang’o and Chesang are within their constitutional rights to make noises about defamation the English adage when you fall don’t struggle could be most apt. By attracting too much attention to themselves the duo are inviting the wrath of public opinion as has been the reaction of Kenyans on social media.
