Government Orders Moses Kuria Offices to Be Moved While He Tours Siaya

Trade CS Moses Kuria together with his host Siaya Governor James Orengo on Thursday laid the foundation of the much-hyped grand industrial park at Got Akara, Alego-Usonga Constituency in Siaya County.

The event was preceded by pomp and ceremony with the Siaya County Government erecting a banner that cost a foot and an arm just to welcome the CS.

Meanwhile things are not so rosy for the CS as the government has issued a directive to the Ministry of Trade headed by CS Moses Kuria, instructing them to relocate their offices from Two Rivers Mall back to the 17th floor of the NSSF building.

The move could be tied in to recent altercations between Mr. Kuria and the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Gachagua is on record warning Mr. Kuria following a careless statement concerning the surge in fuel prices. Although Mr. Kuria, grudgingly offered an apology, the conflict is  now threatening  to create divisions within the ruling coalition.

An insider quoted by a local publication revealed that the decision to shift offices back to the State pension fund-owned building is part of the government’s efforts to cut expenses in line with recent austerity measures. However, another source suggested that the directive might also be aimed at curbing the outspoken CS Kuria’s influence, especially following a recent public spat with the Deputy President regarding the cost of living and rising fuel prices.

Kuria has a reputation for making controversial if not reckless statements. The Ministry of Trade had initially moved out of the NSSF building, citing space constraints as Kuria sought to attract more investments into the country.

Back in Siaya residents applaud projects being launched by the Kenya Kwanza administration while criticizing any politician who openly takes a stand to work with the same government.
