The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is undergoing reforms that will split it into three entities under the Social Health Insurance Bill 2023.
As part of these reforms, NHIF employees will need to reapply for their jobs in the new agency.
The bill stipulates that the new Social Health Authority, responsible for managing three funds (primary healthcare, healthcare, and emergency, chronic, and critical illness), will absorb NHIF workers based on merit through a competitive recruitment process.
The Bill aims to enhance the effectiveness of NHIF and its ability to provide affordable healthcare for all Kenyans under the universal healthcare program.
