Gem Member of Parliament Elisha Odhiambo Akuba on Sunday September 24 heaped praises on President Dr William Samoei Ruto for taking the lead among African leaders to unify the people beyond tribe and boundary lines.

Mr. Odhiambo also took a swipe at leaders allied to the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance for constantly attacking the president over the perceived high cost of living without giving credit to economic reforms in progress.

Speaking at a  funds drive in Shinyalu Constituency of Kakamega County Odhiambo said the former regime led by Uhuru Kenyatta was not keen on supporting agriculture, and that things went south during the tenure of President Kenyatta.

Akuba further said although Dr. Ruto assumed power when the economy was on its deathbed, within a short time he had initiated radical reforms in efforts to turn the economy around. He also said he had full confidence that Ruto would deliver on his manifesto.

“Today, the country has gathered here to say that Kenya is bigger and better when we are united. Leaders here are of different political parties and are united, that shows that it is possible to be united. President Ruto inherited a dilapidated economy and a collapsing agricultural sector,” said the vocal MP.

“The reason why we have a problem with the Dollar is because we do not have exports going outside the country since the previous government never thought of agriculture. As long as we do not have exports going outside the country, the Dollar will not stabilize,” he said.

“As leadership from Luo Nyanza, we will continue supporting President William Ruto so that the country can move forward. I am aware that the president has a good plan for this country, he knows what he is doing and there is no doubt that the country will be better under Dr William Ruto,” he added amid cheers from the congregation.

The Gem MP is among other 4 MPs from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party who were expelled owing to their close association with the president, with the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal suspending their ouster until the case filed by the MPs is heard and determined.

Others expelled include MPs Gideon Ochanda, Phelix Odiwour, Caroli Omondi and Senator Tom Ojienda.
