On the final lap of his visit to Nyanza, President Ruto today inspected ongoing works at Dhogoye Bridge and approach roads along the Kisian-Usenge-Osieko highway.

When completed the road will be an integral connect between Siaya and Busia lessening by close to 90 miles the roundabout journey currently undertaken by travellers through Bondo and Siaya towns.

The President also launched the upgrading to bitumen standard of the Bondo-Uyawi-Kibanga-Liunda Beach Road that will open up the inner Bondo district for travel and business.

Siaya Deputy Governor Dr William Oduol Denge accompanied the President as he commissioned the key development projects. Also present in his official capacity was Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo.

Although the duo have not been seeing eye-to-eye on a number of issues, the president’s visit has been an equaliser with DG Oduol, Eliud Owalo, Elisha Odhiambo, Gideon Ochanda and Felix Odiwuor aka Jalang’o stealing the limelight.

Having sent their keyboard warriors to belittle the mega development projects initiated by the president in the four-day visit it now remains to be seen whether ODM Party stalwarts are capable of balancing the equation with any tangible projects of their own.

Siaya County has lagged behind in development for close to five decades as it is the home of Kenya’s most ardent opposition leaders; Ajuma Oginga Odinga and his son former Premier Raila Amollo Odinga. Siaya is also the citadel of politics, corruption and not much else.

While other counties are clamouring to have a share of the national cake by working with the President of the Republic of Kenya, in Siaya a politicians rectitude is measured by how low he or she kowtows to the Odinga diadem.

Meanwhile, CPA, Dr. William Oduol Denge also joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto at Kisumu Shipyard in commissioning Uhuru MV II, a vessel with a carrying capacity of 1063 tones and fitted with a cruising speed of 14 knots.

During the commissioning President Ruto showered platitudes on his predecessor Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta and Kenya’s military leaders for having the foresight to initiate such a great project.
