SECURITY ALERT: Siaya Targeted By Al Shabaab, Daesh Terrorists As Lush Recruitment Grounds

The Kenya Counter Terrorism Police last night issued an alert warning the public that State war on terror has starved terror groups of recruits from regions they used to source from and now they are targeting new regions including Siaya.

The statement said that the terror groups operating in the larger East Africa are now targeting to recruit youth from Siaya, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisii, Homabay & Migori for training in Somalia, DRC & Mozambique.

The police agency called on citizens to collaborate in weeding out any suspicious activity within their localities by reporting to toll-free numbers provided here.

“Citizens need to collaborate with security agencies by reporting terrorism activities for action.

This include identifying terrorism recruitment & facilitation networks, terror group cells, terror financiers & radicalisation among youth,” detailed the statement.

With one of the highest unemployment rates Siaya is a lush ground for recruitment of idle youth. Most of them are disgruntled for holding onto academic credentials that do not fetch them employment while the County Government was recently in the limelight for employing people with dubious academic qualifications.

“This one will finish our youth,” said a West Alego villager, in Siaya County, adding “With Bodaboda motorbike riding as the only industry in Siaya, prospects of making a quick buck will be too good for the youth to bypass.”
