Siaya businesswoman and Soroptimist, Rose Kisero has called out the county government of Siaya for lack of policy in tackling issues affecting the girl child.

As the world commemorates International Girl Child Day today Ms. Kisero said organizations and individuals working to empower the girl child have met bureaucratic hurdles in attempts to collaborate with the Orengo administration.

“I hope the county government will remember girls today even if it’s sanitary and boys can get stationery. Organisations have found it hard to approach this government for any collaboration. Siaya County needs to do better,” said Rose who is a leading member of the Soroptimist International, Winam Kisumu Chapter.

Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement working in 120 countries to transform the lives of women and girls.

“It’s sad to see school girls sleep with Bodaboda just to get basic needs. Children need to be children. Siaya should formulate policy to handle specific issues affecting the girl child for the betterment of future generations. Whatever is being done for the girl child right now is not enough.”
