Insightful Reasons Why Raila Might Have Toned Down on Criticism of Ruto Government

Less than three months ago, Raila Amollo Odinga was spearheading attacks on the Ruto government for mishandling issues impacting the lives of Kenyans.

Lately, the outspoken opposition leader has been silent even as Kenyans continue to complain over the high cost of life and “punitive tax” policies that are being implemented by President Ruto’s administration.

Odinga in July said that he gave the ongoing Kimani Ichungwa and Kalonzo-led Bomas talks time to resolve sticky issues that resulted from the disputed 2022 polls. The opposition supremo said that he would return to the streets if the government failed to act quickly.

But Raila’s silence has raised concern amongst Kenyans who now want him to speak about the current economic situation in the country.

But speaking during an interview on Wednesday night, Political analyst and governance expert Philip Kisa opines that Raila could be silent for two reasons.

The expert says that Mr Odinga might have already entered into a deal with President William Ruto and is currently dining with the head of state. Kisa opines that a man speaks only when he has nothing to eat.

Secondly, Kisa also holds the view that Odinga has taken his entire political career fighting governments and could be figuring out how he is going to start living his life outside active politics.

“I will look for Raila and ask him what he is eating. You know a man speaks only when he has nothing to eat.” He said as he laughed.

“Secondly Raila has taken his entire life fighting for the people and the energy he had 20 years ago is not the same as the one he has now. I think he is preparing to retire from politics maybe 5 years from now.” He said.
