Before you can check whether your certificate of good conduct is ready in Kenya, you must apply for it. Once done, you must wait a few weeks to download and print it. You will require this certificate when applying for a job anywhere in Kenya. But do you know how to check if your certificate of good conduct is ready in Kenya?

Many employers in Kenya require new employees to provide their police clearance certificate or a certificate of good conduct before getting a job. The certificate certifies that the Kenyan authorities have conducted a criminal search on the applicant and found the person has no criminal record.

How to check if your certificate of good conduct is ready in Kenya
You can check police clearance certificate status in Kenya depending on the method you used to apply for the certificate. Here are the three methods to use to check if your certificate of good conduct is ready in Kenya:

1. Check the police clearance certificate status at Huduma Centre

You can apply for a certificate of good conduct at a Huduma Centre near you. Kenya has 52 Huduma Centres spread countrywide, with at least one Huduma Centre in all the 47 counties.

Once you visit Huduma Centre, you must provide your details to apply for a police clearance certificate. Also, you must pay KES 1,000 as a fee to have your details processed and verified.

After applying, you will have to wait at least five days before you can get your certificate. However, it could take up to 30 days to verify, process, and issue your certificate of good conduct at a Huduma Centre.

2. Check clearance at DCI Headquarters
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is the only police unit responsible for processing and issuing the certificate of good conduct. The DCI uses a biometric system to capture and store an applicant’s fingerprints and uses the information to verify their identity and criminal history.

You can apply for a police clearance certificate at any DCI office countrywide. DCI has its headquarters in Nairobi along Kiambu Road in Muthaiga, Kenya. If you are outside Nairobi, you can apply for the certificate from the Divisional CID offices in your area.

After applying, you will have to wait at least a week to get your certificate of good conduct from the offices where you made your application. However, it may take longer than a week because of a backlog of applications.
