Media reports have emerged that legislators from Nyanza last night held a highly confidential meeting at an undisclosed location to discuss the storm in the teacup that has been caused by Raila Amollo Odinga saying he would support Kalonzo Musyoka come 2027.
The doyen of Kenya’s opposition politics made the statement during a moment of elation while celebrating his elder brother Oburu Oginga’s 80th birthday only to recant his statement through a communique by his Spokesperson Dennis Onyango a few hours later.
The meeting of Luo legislators dubbed duol has now resolved that the succession talk should not be left to Azimio caucus but they should be fully involved. Sometime back it was anathema even to suggest that his eminence Raila Amollo Odinga could be replaced in whatever capacity.
The fact that the Luo legislators held their duol under hush hush conditions still point to the fact that the succession of Raila is a matter of life and death in terms of significance.
One resolution that was arrived at was that it is too early for Luo leaders to start talking on who should succeed Raila Odinga in the region. The meeting also gave a greenlight to Raila Odinga to engage Kalonzo Musyoka (officially) and other Azimio coalition members on matters to do with 2027 General Elections.
Guardedly, they maintained that such engagements would come at the right time and there was no need to raise temperatures about the same right now.
Sources at the meeting reveal the guarded nature of each person who spoke. They were even intimated to say that Raila endorsed Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in Bondo only to arrive in Nairobi the following day and change his mind.
