Manchester United Legend Sir Bobby Charlton Dies Aged 86

Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton has passed away at the age of 86, his family confirmed on Saturday.

According to the statement, the World Cup winner breathed his last in the early hours of Saturday, October 21, 2023.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sir Bobby passed peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was surrounded by his family,” the statement reads in part.

Sir Bobby Charlton was a key figure as England won the World Cup in 1966, the only Cup the Three Lions have won till today.

Charlton, 86 earned 106 caps for the national team and was regarded as one of England’s and Manchester United’s football legends.

He won three league titles, a European Cup, and an FA Cup in his glittering 17 years with Manchester United.

“Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world. Sir Bobby will always be remembered as a giant of the game,” Manchester United eulogized Sir Bobby Charlton.

Charlton made 106 appearances for the England national team, scored 49 international goals in the process.

After hanging his boots, Charlton proceeded to become Manchester United’s director for 39 years.

“His unparalleled record of achievement, character and service will be forever etched in the history of Manchester United and English football; and his legacy will live on through the life-changing work of the Sir Bobby Charlton Foundation,” added Manchester United.

Manchester United is struggling to find a firm footing in the English Premier League after a bad start into the ongoing campaign.
