MP Arrested Over Rape Allegations

A LEADING Conservative MP has been arrested over an allegation of rape, The Sun can reveal.

The prominent politician – who we are not naming for legal reasons – was also questioned on suspicion of possession of controlled substances.

It is the latest blow to Rishi Sunak and the Conservative Party, which has been hit by a string of sleaze allegations.

Their former deputy chief whip Chris Pincher was booted out of office last week after The Sun revealed he groped someone in a Tory private members club.

The Tories lost his seat of Tamworth to Labour in a doubly by-election defeat.

Yesterday, Tory former minister Peter Bone was suspended from the House of Commons for six weeks for bullying and sexual misconduct against a staff member.

He could be kicked out as an MP and another by-election called if 10 per cent of voters in his constituency of Wellingborough sign a petition against him.

And another Tory MP is currently on bail over sexual assault allegations which he denies.

The latest allegations do not relate to any of these three men.

Mr Sunak has vowed to crack down on sleaze and restore the public’s faith in their politicians.

Speaking in January this year – after he sacked Tory chairman Nadhim Zahawi over his tax affairs – said: “I will take whatever steps are necessary to restore integrity back into politics.

“Integrity is really important to me”.

But the latest allegations deal the PM and his party a fresh blow.

The Conservatives are lagging around 20 points behind Labour in the polls as Mr Sunak struggles to turn his party’s fortunes around.

Pollsters are predicting they will be kicked out of No.10 at the next election, expected late next year.

The Conservative Party declined to comment.

A Surrey police spokesman said: “We can confirm a man was arrested yesterday morning (25 October) on suspicion of rape and possession of controlled substances.

“He has been released on conditional police bail pending further enquiries.”

The Sun has contacted the MP’s office for comment.
