A Christian Religious Education(CRE) teacher has been nabbed for selling fake Kenya National Examinations Council(KNEC) exam papers for the incoming national examinations.

In a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI), the suspect identified as Nicholas Ngumbau Kalewa alias ‘Mr Examiner’ was nabbed following meticulous investigations by detectives attached to KNEC.

DCI says Ngumbau who teaches CRE at St Lilian Academy in Gikambura village, Kiambu County had opened several WhatsApp and Telegram groups for his dubious business and had over 900 members.

“Mr Examiner had opened over 10 WhatsApp and Telegram accounts where he was hawking the fake exam papers at a partly Ksh1,500 per paper and Ksh2,000 for a complete examination paper with its marking scheme,” DCI said.

In some of his messages to the group, he cautioned members to avoid introducing other matters since he was busy attending to those who were willing to buy the exam papers.

Further, he asked the members to be cautious of scammers claiming he was the only one with legit papers.

“Avoid many stories in my inbox I have many clients,” a text message shared by DCI read.

He was arrested by a DCI officer posing as a student. After his arrest, sleuths recovered several SIM cards believed to be used in the fraud.

According to DCI, Ngumbau’s SIM card, bank account and the pay bill number he had shared online for business had been registered using a stolen identity card.
