Students across Kenya began their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) examinations on Monday while a series of extraordinary stories have emerged as reported by local authorities, with a KCPE candidate in Makueni County defying odds, as she gave birth on the very day she was scheduled to sit for her exams.
At the Mother and Child Hospital in Wote, the candidate took her examinations with her newborn by her side, all while closely watched by relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, in Kitui County, another candidate at Mwingi Primary School found herself in the midst of labor pains, prompting an urgent transfer to Mwingi Level IV Hospital where she delivered her baby and continued her examinations, all within the hospital’s premises.
Another 17-year-old girl from Kagondi Primary School in Kitui gave birth at Muthale Mission Hospital on Sunday, October 29.
She went on to sit her Mathematics paper in the same hospital, early Monday morning.
However, not all stories had such smooth outcomes, as a KCPE candidate from Emivia Primary School in Kitui went missing from her home on the very day she was supposed to take her Mathematics exam, along with her three-month-old baby.
Efforts are currently underway to locate her and ensure her well-being.
Additionally, a young male Grade Six pupil from Ngumbwa Primary School in Mutitu, Kitui County who fractured his leg, sat for his KPSEA exams at Kitui County Referral Hospital.
In Migori County, two pupils from Piny Owacho Primary School in Uriri and Mubachi Primary School in Suna West found themselves admitted to Migori County Referral Hospital’s Maternity Wing.
Both pupils successfully delivered their babies and are currently undertaking their examinations at the hospital under the watch of local authorities.
