Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo on Wednesday visited Kenyan exhibitors on the sidelines of the Third Conference of the Africa Sub Sovereign Governments network ongoing in Cairo, Egypt.
The Governor noted that Kenyan-made products had now found global acceptance for adhering to high standards of production.
Governor Orengo who is attending the Third Conference of the Africa Sub Sovereign Governments network in Cairo also challenged international investors to take advantage of the conducive industrial climate in Kenya by partnering with county governments.
Already the Afrexim Bank is partnering with the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) on investments aimed at unlocking new opportunities in counties.
In August Siaya County launched a KES 484 million Aggregation Industrial Park whose critics have been wondering what products the county is capable of producing apart from honey and other mundane items that can adequately be processed by SMEs.
“The journey has just begun,” said the Governor on phone from Cairo, adding “My administration intends to make Siaya an industrial production hub in the continent by wooing local as well as foreign investment. We have a clear blueprint to achieve this end no matter what our detractors are saying.”
Efforts by the governor to rump up a county economy that was beleaguered by rampant maladministration in the first decade of devolution have been downplayed while isolated cases of corruption have been given media highlights.
