Seven terrorism suspects were nabbed in a dawn police raid Monday morning at Hawinga village, Siaya County.
The suspects were arrested following an operation that was conducted by a multi-agency team comprising officers drawn from the Kenya Police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations Siaya, Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) Busia and a special team from Nairobi.
According to the police incident report, the multi-agency team while acting on an intelligence report, raided Hawinga and Uranga areas in search of the terror suspects and managed to arrest the first six.
During the operations, assorted crude weapons namely 2 pangas, one rungu, 3 knives and several Islamic literature were recovered from the suspects.
Thereafter, the team extended the operations to Nyadorera area at Udamayi village and managed to arrest one more suspect then recovered several Islamic literature & writings, Arafat shawl, Islamic hat, small military bag, a pair of scissors, one pliers, a pair of safety boots, about 200 grams of cannabis sativa seeds, one big spear and one black catapult.
The suspects have all been taken into police custody at Siaya Police Station while investigations continue.
Meanwhile, local reports indicate that the police are in hot pursuit of two suspects who escaped the original dragnet last week when two of their colleagues were shot dead.
