A police officer was arrested Tuesday evening after shooting his wife dead at their house in the Railways Police Lines in Eldoret.
A report filed by Constable Maxwell Maina’s neighbour indicates that as she was heading home, she heard gunshot sounds from the officer’s house and alerted police.
“Railways and DCI Soy personnel rushed to the scene and found one Mercy Chebet having been shot twice in the chest and succumbed to injury,” police said.
Maina had been issued with the firearm at 8 PM for train escort and upon his arrest, it was found that he had expended three rounds of ammunition.
The report further noted that there have been persistent domestic feuds between Maina and Chebet.
The deceased’s body was moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem.
