The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission has arrested 14 police officers over incidents of taking bribe in the last two months.
The efforts are meant to purge the police service, especially the traffic police department of rogue officers who are tainting the good name of the force.
Civic society has heaped blame on officers of the National Police Service for insensitivity in handling the public and insisting on bribes to perform designated duties.
On Sunday, however, a Twitter user in Kitui posted the touching image of a traffic police officer giving fare to supposedly stranded school children. Such singular acts of humanity are swept under by the negative press the force attracts for its many known acts of brutality.
In a recent post, officers attached to the General Service Unit had to be evacuated from flash flooding in Kwale County where they had selflessly given their services. Instances of female police officers rescuing children from burning houses are glossed over while the negative aspects given greater publicity.
This is not denying that Kenya traffic police are singularly notorious for taking bribes, but a number stand out as true professionals committed to the upkeep of law and order.
The officer in Kitui, whose name was given as Corporal Galgalo deserves accolades.
