A traffic police officer died while receiving treatment at a Busia hospital after she was hit by a speeding vehicle.
The traffic officer, who was on duty alongside her colleagues, was knocked down by a speeding vehicle at Koteko area along the Malaba-Bungoma Road.
A police report seen indicates that Constable Nancy Chepchumba, attached to Amagoro patrol, had tried to stop the vehicle, which was coming from Malaba town towards Bungoma, but the driver ignored her call, instead hitting the officer and driving on.
As a result of the impact, the officer sustained serious injuries on the head and other parts of the body. Emergency responders rushed the officer to Teso North sub county hospital whereby she died while receiving treatment. The body of the deceased officer was taken to Bungoma county hospital mortuary for preservation pending postmortem.
Confirming the incident, area police boss said authorities have received vital information that will lead to the killer driver’s arrest.
