The charred remains of the two boys, aged 6 and 4 years were discovered at Baraton Village, Chemundu location in Chesumei sub-county by villagers.

They had combed in a nearby forest and along the seasonal rivers a day after their parents were arrested by police for “child neglect” after they had gone to make a “missing persons’ report” at Chemundu Police Station.

Eunice Jepng’etich, a maternal grandmother of the deceased claimed that the children’s parents had engaged in a brawl that forced her daughter Brenda Jerotich, 28 to flee from her matrimonial home.

On her return two days later, she could not trace the whereabouts of her two sons and only found a year-old baby she had left behind.

Her husband Kelvin Cheruiyot,35, could neither explain where the boys were and insisted on having the matter reported to the police.

However, when they appeared before the police, they were placed in custody after they failed to explain the circumstances in which they disappeared.

Chesumei sub-county police commander Thomas Kiogora, the parents were to appear in court on Wednesday to face child neglect charges, only for the public to discover the bodies dumped in an ant bear hole.

“They were found about 200m from the house the family were living a clear indicator of homicide, “ Kiogora noted.

They are suspected to have been strangled by someone known to them.

According to the children’s grandmother, Cheruiyot, her son-in-law wanted them to be taken away since they were not his biological children.

“They were born from my daughter’s first marriage before they cohabited with Jerotich resulting in the birth of the third child,” Jepng’etich said.

Villager believes the two were murdered after a fight that forced their mother to flee and that the bodies were dumped to conceal the incident.
