Development and Corruption make strange bed fellows…
Hon. Elisha Odhiambo on a tele-conference meeting with participants of the just concluded Youth Connekt Africa Summit received feedback on issues raised by the youth from Gem Constituency.
The young graduates noted that lack of jobs and the issue of corruption, especially in Siaya, were top of mind when considering factors hindering the youth from achieving their dreams.
Hon.Elisha in his part, agrees that corruption was definitely a cancer eating up development funding, borrowing examples from the 2023 Auditor report on Siaya county management of funds and the issues raised against the Governor at the impeachment hearing of the Deputy Governor, Dr. William Oduol.
The second term legislator reiterates that desired development cannot be achieved in an environment that lacks accountability.
The MP strongly urges the National Government, and specifically the EACC, to rope in the corrupt county officials, starting from the top, and allow Siaya county an opportunity to develop for the benefit of its people.
