An 18-year-old suspected cattle thief escaped death by a whisker in Rarieda, Siaya County.
Siaya police boss Cleti Kimaiyo said the suspect was waylaid by a mob at Lieta village, South Uyoma location.
Malachi Otieno was found with a stolen cow in the area, before angry members of the public descended on him with kicks and blows.
“The suspect was rescued from the hands of the mob by police officers,” Kimaiyo added.
Police rushed to scene after receiving a tip off from bodaboda operators at Lieta stage.
“We were informed that there was man who was being beaten by a mob. Our officers dashed to the scene.”
Officers from Madiany police station said the suspect sustained bruises on his forehead and hands.
“He was found escorting the stolen cow to the nearby Aram market where he was planning on selling it,” police added.
The suspect was rushed to Madiany sub-county hospital for treatment pending his arraignment.
