4 Perish in Accident Along Eldoret-Nakuru Highway

Four people died in a road accident that occurred on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Hill Tea area along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway.

The National Police Service reported that the incident took place at 5:00 a.m. when a Msamaria Shuttle Limited Matatu lost control and collided with a 60-seater bus.

Four lives lost in accident
“Four people lost their lives on Dec 18, 2023, at around 0500hrs, through a tragic road accident involving a Nakuru-bound matatu belonging to Msamaria Shuttle Ltd after the said motor vehicle lost control, colliding head-on with an oncoming 60-seater bus at Hill Tea Area along Eldoret-Nakuru Road,” the NPS has announced.

The matatu, carrying 16 passengers, witnessed the loss of three passengers and the driver in the accident.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Eldama Ravine Sub County. Nine passengers who sustained injuries were also conveyed to the facility for medical treatment.

“The matatu was carrying 16 passengers at the time of the accident which claimed the lives of the driver and three other passengers that died on the spot. Nine other passengers were seriously injured, and are currently receiving treatment at Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital. The bodies of the deceased were moved to the same facility,” the statement added.

Accidents caution
The Police urged road users to be cautious in the current weather conditions where several areas are witnessing rain.

“The National Police Service urges motorists and all other road users to exercise extreme caution while on the roads especially during this rainy season,” the statement concluded.
