Police have launched an investigation following an attack and murder of one of their own in Thika, Kiambu County.
The officer who was responding to a scene of crime distress was shot dead by thugs on Sunday.
Area DCI boss Jecinta Mbaika said a number of officers had responded to calls that there was an ongoing robbery when they were ambushed. The officer died on the spot as his colleagues took cover while the alleged gang made good their escape. The robbers are said to have used a motorcycle to flee the scene of crime.
Officer Jecinta said working on leads, a team of detectives are in hot pursuit of the suspected thugs. The body of the officer has been moved to the local morgue pending postmortem.
The killing of the officer is the latest in a series of insecurity incidents being experienced in Thika town and its environs.
