Memorable Moments As Orengo Hosts Raila at Rural Home

Siaya Governor James Aggrey Bob Orengo today, Tuesday 26 December 2023 had the distinguished honour of hosting the doyen of Kenya’s opposition politics Rt. Honourable Raila Amollo Odinga.

As a sign of his excitement Governor Orengo on his Twitter page commented that it was important to spend quality time with friends and loved ones. The history of Orengo and Raila is intertwined and one of the most enthralling narratives in the modern phase of Kenya’s struggle for constitutional freedom and social liberties.

Orengo received Raila Odinga at his home in Ligega, Ugenya Masiro, Siaya County.

Several distinguished guests also merited an invite to the exhilarating occasion.

Among them were another close ally of Orengo, former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya. Also present were several Members of Parliament from the region as well as elected and non-elected leaders.

At over senty years of age, Governor James Orengo has enjoyed an illustrious career in politics beginning with the day in 1978 when he was elected Member of Parliament for  Ugenya Constituency.

A luminary of the Law Society of Kenya, Senior Counsel James Orengo is a household name in the annals of Kenya’s courtroom history. Together with Gibson Kamau Kuria, John Khaminwa and Gitobu Imanyara they had the opportunity to get involved in the promulgation of the 2010 Kenya Constitution even though they were largely seen as critics of government.

James Aggrey Bob Orengo has had his fair share of arrests and incarceration for being vocal about civic and human rights. At one point he made the gang of legislators infamously christened by former Attorney General Charles Mugane Njonjo as the Seven Bearded Sisters.

Orengo’s worst political nightmare came when he was trounced resoundingly as a presidential candidate. Among his notable achievements are his tenure as Senator in Kenya’s upper Parliament.

Orengo has a weakness for youth, often surrounding himself with novices in governance and politics whom he has adeptly groomed into becoming some of the best performing executives in the Siaya County Government.

Since he took over as Governor of Siaya County, Orengo has been involved in landmark infrastructural projects some which are yet to be completed.

Amid the ambience and picturesque landscape of Orengo’s outer garden his distinguished guests were treated to some of the finest culinary effects with an international class gourmet. The wine, no doubt, was world-class.

The few gatecrashers including the one who posted this article for the first time saw that the Governor’s mansion has a helipad on top and First Lady Betty Kaari Murungi prefers to serve her guests herself without involving employed staff.
