8 applicants from Siaya County have successfully been selected as beneficiaries of the Equity Bank Wings to Fly Education Scholarship program for 2024.
The Successful applicants are: Elizabeth Adhiambo Opondo from St. Ignatius Sigomre Primary School in Ugunja Constituency, Sospeter Ochieng Oduor from Nyandiwa Primary School in Alego-Usonga Constituency, Fidel Omondi Ogando of Sango Primary School in Ugunja and Waringa Naomi Atieno of Bar-Kodhiambo Primary in Alego-Usonga.
Also selected are: Catherine Anyango Andhendha of Jera Primary School in Ugenya, Bravin Otieno Otieno of Sirisia Primary School in Ugenya, Daniel Oduor Otieno of Kagilo Primary in Gem and Ombonya Dorothy Achieng of Gongo Primary in Gem.
All the above beneficiaries passed their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) Examinations with flying colours [minimum of 350 marks].
The Wings to Fly scholarship program, an initiative of the Equity Group and Mastercard Foundation (MCF), was established to support secondary education for top performing children from financially challenged backgrounds. With support from other partners, the program offers access to leadership training to previously marginalized children in all counties.
The program offers comprehensive support for the scholars through provision of tuition fees, accommodation, books, uniform, shopping, pocket money and transport to and from school during their 4 years of secondary education. It has so far supported 26,304 bright but economically challenged scholars. MCF has so far committed to support 10,000 scholars through two phases of funding with the last intake joining the program in 2021.
