Siaya Governor James Orengo has continued to slam the Kenya Kwanza government over the country’s dwindling economy.
He claims that President William Ruto’s administration is clueless about the economic revival strategies, hence Kenya is currently the poorest economy in Africa.
The governor regretted that in the history of the country, the government is for the first time very broke to the extent that they cannot even send money to the counties.
“In the world of Africa now… you look at all the economies in Africa, Kenya is doing very badly. Yesterday I spoke to someone very senior in government and he told me things are very very bad. There is no money in the economy. The government, for the first time, is not giving natural funds which should go to the constituencies. Although Kenya Kwanza is talking very loudly, they are not sending money to the counties,” said Orengo.
Orengo regretted that countries such as Uganda, Ethiopia and even Tanzania are now getting more foreign investments than Kenya, because of the country’s current declining economy.
He stated that Ethiopia is now a bigger economy than Kenya many times, adding that in the last 20 years, the Tanzanian economy has expanded seven times.
“You have heard Uganda is now getting more foreign investment than Kenya… You have heard that Ethiopia is now a bigger economy than Kenya many times. You have heard that the Tanzanian economy has expanded in the last 20 years seven times and Tanzania is doing much better than Kenya,” he said.
On her part, Siaya County MP Dr. Christine Ombaka called out President William Ruto over the high cost of living, accusing his administration of burdening Kenyans with huge taxes.
She stated that Kenyans are tired and therefore asked the government to ensure that taxes are reduced in the year 2024.
