Excitement As CS Owalo Brings the Mighty Gor Mahia Home

Nyilima grounds in Rarieda will today be the scene of a landmark football contest as the mighty Gor Mahia FC take on Nyanza Combined in a friendly match.

Nyanza Combined head coach Charles Odero confirmed final preparations for the match and expressed confidence in the squad named to face Gor Mahia today.

The match which will be graced by ICT and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo alongside other leaders kicks off at 3:00 pm.

Odero said they expect an entertaining match between Nyanza and the Kenya Premier League champion defenders.

“We have good players who have been selected for the encounter. They understand and know the capability of every player who has been selected,” he said.

Nyanza Combined players have been drawn from the four counties across Luo Nyanza including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Migori.

Odero said the players are talented and were at their best during the just concluded Eliud Owalo Super Cup tournament that was sponsored by the Eliud Owalo Foundation.

In the 22-man squad, Felix Ochieng of Kisumu and Bruce Jacob of Siaya were selected as the goalkeepers.

Felix Otieno (Migori), David Ongech (Siaya), Felix Okoth (Siaya), Joseph Okwenda (Homa Bay), Brian Ochieng (Homa Bay0, Cliff Otieno (Kisumu), Alex Onchwari (Kisumu)and Vincent Wanga (Kisumu) form the defence.

Midfield will comprise Clinton Ramirez, Kajos Ochieng, Bernard Kibaki of Migori; Gospel Otieno, Hamis Otieno(Homa Bay), Maxwell Odada and Kevin Okoth(Kisumu).

Siaya’s Brian Oriaro and Kevin Omolo will lead the forwards alongside Churchill Omondi ( Migori), Churchill Sero (Homa Bay) and Eugene Ochieng (Kisumu).

Gor Mahia’s operations manager Jolawi Obondo said they are ready for the match. “As we speak, we are already in Bondo and ready for the m, match,” he said. Obondo said they expect a good and entertaining game.

“We expect our coach Johnathan McKinstry and his team to give their best during the match. In Gor, we believe in the spirit of winning and that is what our fans expect during and after the match,” Obondo said.

He said: “I don’t expect an easy match because what these boys displayed during the Eliud Owalo Super Cup was top football. I had the opportunity to watch all the matches and these boys are on another level.”

Obondo said the tournament was a good opportunity for football teams to scout talent. He said Gor are taking the match very seriously.
