Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Saturday cordoned off the residence of Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza for several hours.
The DCI Detectives also raided the Governor’s office at the Meru County Headquarters.
During the sting operation, five suspects have been nabbed including the Governor’s son and brother.
The Governor has strongly disassociated herself from reports that she may have met Daniel Muthiani Bernard alias Sniper anytime before his disappearance. Safaricom logs have proved however that a confidant of the Governor held a ten-minute conversation with the blogger on the same day he disappeared.
Daniel Muthiani had been a chief critic of the Kawira Mwangaza administration using satirical prayer video clips recorded in the vernacular. On the day of his disappearance, the caller offered him a chance to work with the Governor’s office, ostensibly, for better remuneration.
He was to be pronounced as disappeared on 3 December 2023 only for his body to be recovered from River Nithi two weeks later.
Renowned bloggers Cyprian Nyakundi, Robert Alai and Dennis Itumbi have all come up with unified calls for justice for the slain blogger.
In Kenya, political bloggers do not necessarily run blog pages but are active on multiple social media platforms including Tik-tok, WhatsApp and YouTube.
The leading detective in the investigations has called for calm and asked the public not to engage in unnecessary speculation.
