Siaya Court Issues Restriction Order Against Youth Leader Charged with Defamation

Nawiri Youth group leader Vincent Odhiambo was today arraigned in a Siaya court on charges of defamation, libel and malicious slander.

This was the first mention of a case in which the vocal youth leader was accused of exchanging derogatory words with a politician in a Siaya Political WhatsApp group.

Vincent Odhiambo of Nawiri Youth Group, which is headquartered in Kisumu was arrested on 7 October 2023 within Yala Township and placed under custody at the Yala Police Station for a whole day.

He would later be charged for using abusive language against the politician in what was termed a heated exchange on a WhatsApp group.

Vincent Odhiambo has been vocal against corruption in the Siaya County Government.

During mentioning of the case today the Magistrate issued a directive that Vincent Odhiambo desists from referring to matters relating to the case either in public or on social media until the case is heard and determined.

The Magistrate however upheld the bail terms of the accused who is out on a cash bail of KES 30,000.
