Former Migori governor Okoth Obado has called out opposition leaders over attack on Interior Permanent Secretary Raymond Omollo during a funeral on Friday.

In a press conference in Migori town on Saturday, Obado said it was unfortunate that the funeral of former Migori Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Philip Makabong’o was marred with violence and attacks on civil servants.

Obado who is the Nyanza United Democratic Alliance (UDA) manager, said they were shocked by what happened during the funeral in Rongo.

“What we saw on Friday was barbaric, as chaos saw one person killed, and it was a height of immaturity when leaders warned those allied to UDA from the region of violence,” Obado said.

He said it was unfortunate that elected leaders chose to castigate police and Omollo over the chaos at the funeral and those in Kisii county against Governor Simba Arati.

“We, as UDA in Nyanza, will not only defend our democratic rights but also civil servants who got a chance in government. They should leave Omollo out of their attacks because, politically, we will floor them,” Obado said.

Elijah Odhiambo, a Suna East constituency UDA politician, said police should investigate the chaos on Thursday, where one person was killed and at least four were injured during the funeral procession.

During the Friday funeral, Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, Siaya governor James Orengo, Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, and Migori Governor Ochillo Ayacko were among the leaders that said UDA will not be tolerated in the Nyanza area.

“We have leaders in government using police to attack us, I want to tell Omollo he should use his position to help people and not to persecute and kill them,” Wandayi said.

“We want to tell Omollo and the police inspector that if anything happens to Governor Arati and other leaders, they will be held responsible,” Oketch said.
