Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has called on the DCI to speed up investigations into the mysterious death of one of its members.

This comes even as investigations are underway to determine what could have caused the death of the physician intern at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, Laban Kiptoo Langat.

The body of the medic was discovered by security guards in a trench outside the facility, at 7am on Saturday morning.

The late Langat aged 26 was attached to the hospital’s Margaret Kenyatta Mother-Baby Maternity Wing.

One of the last people to communicate with Langat was a lady (name withheld) who said he informed her on WhatsApp that he would be attending a rugby game at the Nakuru Athletic Club on Saturday morning.

The friend stated,”We spoke until 11pm on Friday, I was so tired and therefore l dozed off. I woke up at around 4:45 am and I decided to respond to some of his last messages, from the previous night, but l was surprised there was no response. I was worried, but l decided that l would call him later on 1so that we talk,”

“He had not mentioned to me that he would be going out on Friday night as every time he would go out he would tell me. I learned of his death later on Saturday morning, through a friend, that his lifeless body had been found in a trench. This left me deeply shocked and l am yet to come to terms with the incident,” she added.

According to the postmortem report, Kiptoo was diagnosed to have died from asphyxia secondary to manual strangulation, with evidence including bruises on the neck area, 5 bruises on the zygoma, hematoma on the pharynx.

He also had deep injuries on the lumbar area bilaterally, a deep crush injury on the lower lip suggestive of a blow with considerable force, temporal soft tissue hematoma with attendant temporal contusion.

Notably, the autopsy report indicated 2 occipital lobe contusions with frontal counter-coup lesions, bruises on the dorsal aspect of the hand bilaterally suggestive of blows, and lung contusion.

Whatever the cause of death it was by all means far from natural. KMPDU now insists the police move with haste to establish what could have caused the death of the 26-year-old intern.

Through its Secretary General Dr. Devji Bhimji Atela the Union has issued a statement which says in part.

“The circumstances surrounding Dr. Langat’s death are shrouded in mystery, and as KMPDU, we call for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to establish the cause of his death. We implore the relevant authorities to expedite the process, ensuring that justice is served swiftly.”
