Police in Siaya are investigating an incident where the body of a 40-year-old man who is reported to have died by suicide was found dangling in the house of a woman he had inherited in Bondo sub-County.
According to the police report Michael Odongo allegedly took his own life inside Benta Akoth’s house. He was living with the woman at her home having inherited her two years ago when her husband passed on.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed that the incident was reported by Uyawi Sub-location Assistant Chief Joshua Owuor.
Speculation is rife as to what might have driven the jalako (wife inheritor) to take his own life with yet-to-be-verified reports indicating that after completing the rituals for Benta Akoth she intended to kick out the deceased.
