Lawyer Fred Odumo Nyingu’ro yesterday held a highly successful free medical camp in the Huma area of Kisumu West sub-county.
The event which saw residents turn out in large numbers was also used as a benchmark for regular specialized medical camps across the county.
According to the turnout maternal and specifically gynaecological care came up as areas requiring prioritization. Several cases of fibrosis among young women and arthritis as well as orthopaedic problems with the elderly were referred for specialized treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Wakili Odumo emphasized that the health agenda should take precedence over everything else as leading a sick population ultimately translates into a burden for the leadership. He indicated that such pilot medical camps are used as a yardstick to gauge what areas need to be prioritised in subsequent medical camps.
He also promised the people of Kisumu County that his philanthropic efforts were not tied to the 2027 elections but would continue no matter what the outcome.
On the sidelines of the medical camp, a sensitisation meeting was held for Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) from the Huma area.
Also present was Iron Lady Evylin Agesa aka Nyakobura who moderated the meeting with the CHVs.
“We talked about a lot of issues among them and most importantly forging and working together to better service delivery, connecting with mwananchi in the rural and using them as ambassadors to propel Wakili Fred Odumo Nyingu’ro development agenda to the locals,” said a participant in the meetings.
