Heath Executive Dr Martin K’Onyango has assured Ugenya residents that the stalling Maternity complex at Ukwala Level Four Hospital will be completed before April.
To prove the County Government’s commitment, Dr K’Onyango has formed an ad-hoc committee to monitor and supervise the activities till the projects are completed.
All the projects at the facility will cost KES 25 million with maternity alone consuming KES 8 million.
“The ad-hoc committee consists of officers from Procurement, Public Works, and Medical Superintendent with the area MCA as the ex-officio member. The Project Officer is tasked with seeing to it that programmed works are done as per the Bill of quantities and within the set period”, said Dr K’Onyango.
“We can now officially confirm that we have formed the ad-hoc committee to monitor and supervise projects earmarked for implementation at Ukwala Level Four Hospital.”
The maternity complex which will consume KES 8 million was cited as a prioritized area of the project.
Construction of the Ukwala maternity complex was launched during the same period as Madiany and Ambira in the era of ex-Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth but has stalled while the other two are operational.
Confidently K’Onyango now says the project has been resuscitated.
“Once the tender is advertised and won, we shall move on to the site and hand it to the contractor and through the committee we shall be notified on the progress in regards to the procured equipment,” said K’Onyango.
“We have tendered for x-ray stabilizer at the cost of KES 2.5million, expansion of X-ray room at KES 1 million, construction of eye clinic and equipment at KES 1.75 million and completion of plumbing works at Ukwala wards,” said Dr K’Onyango.
He added that his office is committed to rehabilitating Ukwala Hospital infrastructure to improve quality healthcare.
“We are working on comprehensive strategies that will see Ukwala offer quality healthcare that matches its Level Four status,” said K’Onyango.
Speaking on Friday at his office in Siaya,
K’Onyango assured the public that non-operating dispensaries in Siaya will be equipped and staff deployed to enable the resumption of treatment of residents.
“Previous regime had constructed several dispensaries to meet the World Health Organisation’s guidelines but majority are not equipped so we have slowed down on establishment of new projects till the existing ones become operational.”
Dr. K’Onyango further revealed that the construction of a surgical maternity complex project at Siaya Referral Hospital is proceeding on schedule.
