Following the arrest of one person last Thursday, police in Siaya have launched investigations into a ring of drug traffickers.
Sources have revealed that the suspect Mr Justis Onyango Malaki who was arrested ferrying a 298-kilogram haul of bhang with a street value of KES 8.9 million has decided to cooperate with the police, helping them latch on to a wider operation of drug trafficking.
The haul was intercepted by police following a tip-off from the public along the Siaya-Nyadorera road.
When flagged to stop Malaki accelerated to escape the police dragnet forcing the officers into a dramatic car chase that culminated in the shooting of the vehicle’s tyres to immobilize it.
Sensing he was cornered, Malaki sprinted off on foot but the Kiganjo-trained officers were swifter and easily subdued him. Upon examination, the vehicle was found to contain six sacks of bhang.
Malaki has been processed and will take a plea before the Siaya Magistrate’s court tomorrow morning.
