Angry residents of Odiedo Estate in Karapul, Township Ward of Siaya town, yesterday beat up a man to death who was caught attempting housebreaking.
The suspected burglar attacked with a panga and injured three Bodaboda riders when he was cornered further infuriating the mob to beat him to death.
The incident took place around 3:58 am when a Bodaboda rider on an early transport assignment noticed a man attempting to break into a house by cutting the metal grill of a window.
He promptly raised an alarm, and with the help of colleagues, confronted the suspect outside the gate as he attempted to escape.
In the ensuing attempt to apprehend the suspect, he turned aggressive, injuring three individuals with a panga.
Members of the public who responded to the commotion subjected the suspect to mob justice, resulting in his death.
The three injured riders were taken to Siaya County Referral Hospital where they were attended to and released in stable condition.
Siaya County Police Boss, Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident and said his officers retrieved a blood-stained panga and a torch at the scene of the crime.
By last night no relatives had turned up to identify the body which is lying at the Siaya County Referral Mortuary awaiting autopsy.
