Several passengers are feared dead after a bus they were traveling in collided with a lorry on Kisumu-Nairobi road, Monday morning.
The accident occurred when the bus owned by Super Metro, rammed into an oncoming lorry at Ahero.
In a press briefing Nyando Sub-county Police Commander Grace Thuo said the bus driver was trying to overtake several vehicles before the bus collided head-on with the oncoming lorry. The bus driver is believed to have miscalculated the distance when he decided to overtake while the lorry was moving at high speed.
Kisumu County Government Emergency Rescue Team and well-wishers rushed to the scene and took the injured to nearby hospitals. The actual number of those who succumbed to injuries is yet-to-be-established.
The accident caused a huge traffic jam for an hour before the scene was cleared. The police commander urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads.
