Chairman of a  faction of the Luo Council of Elders Nyandiko Ong’adi has picked a new cultural shrine for the Luo community in Kenya.

This follows the eruption of chaos that rocked his visit to the Ofafa Memorial Hall in Kisumu city sometime last month.

The faction led by chair Nyandiko Ong’adi was attacked at the hall during a cultural event.

Soon afterward, Odungi Randa, a rival was installed at the same venue.

Nyandiko and his team who met at Yie Kuom Chier shrine in North Kadem Ward, Migori County in special prayers and a meeting picked another cultural center for their meetings.

The shrine is dedicated to the history of the black man tracing the history of migration of black people from Egypt to South Africa under beliefs of the Legio Maria church.

He said they are also considering picking another site, Alaw Rachuonyo in Homa Bay county as an alternative shrine.

Nyandiko said they have talked with experts and lawyers and will move to court to ascertain the ownership of the Ofafa Memorial Hall, its legal trustees and the legitimate Chairman of the Luo Elders’ Council.

Although he did not mention any person by name, he roundly criticized politicians for interfering with nomination to the godsend office of “Ker”

During the meeting elders drawn from four Nyanza counties of Migori, Homa Bay, Siaya and Kisumu held cultural prayers and sanctified the shrine for future cultural meetings and prayers.
