Sensational claims by Kakamega businessman Cleophas Shimanyula alias Toto that Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale might have had a hand in the death of his bull caretaker Kizito Moi Amukune caused the postponement of the burial that was scheduled for Thursday (today).
According to Kakamega South Police Commander Benjamin Wambua, the police had received from the public additional information worth investigating.
“We were forced to slow down the process for further analysis as allegations of murder came up,” said Wambua, adding “We have now invited the Homicide [Department] to conduct a second postmortem to get to the bottom of this matter.”
This comes even as the family had gone ahead with all arrangements for the burial including the purchase of a bull by the Senator to be slaughtered at the funeral of his employee.
According to the father of the deceased Maurice Odanga Amukune, the family were satisfied by a report from the postmortem carried out on Monday indicating that Kizito’s fatalities were synonymous with being gored by the horns of a bull. The report revealed that the late Kizito died from trauma caused by three broken ribs from a major blow and curved cuts on the neck, head and left thigh.
His body was discovered by a fellow worker on Sunday morning in the cowshed.
Mr Cleophas Shimanyula has intimated, however, that there was bad blood between the Senator and his caretaker because Kizito had a clandestine affair with Khalwale’s wife.
The police also intimated that they may not be working on the speculations of Mr. Shimanyula alone but the public appears seized of certain information that could help unearth the real cause of the death of 46-year-old Kizito Moi Amukune.
The Idakho and their neighbours the Isukha attach a lot of superstition to the art of bullfighting. Those who tend the animals, of necessity, have to be bachelors.
Kizito had tended Dr Khalwale’s bulls for some twenty-even years and Inasio the former champion but now errant bull had been born and bred under his care.
