The lawyer not only supports the deployment of Kenyan police officers to Haiti against a court order but seeks to interpret the ruling for those who might have doubts.
In a tweet Thursday morning Ahmednassir wrote: “Justice Chacha Mwita didn’t prohibit or outlaw the sending of a contingent of Kenyan policemen to Haiti. He merely held that the law and procedural processes weren’t adhered to. In my view, an appeal to the Court of Appeal is wholly unnecessary and time-wasting (in light of Haiti’s dire needs). The government needs to correct the procedural missteps and follow the due process of law as ordered by Justice Mwita.”
On 23 April 2023 when the Cabinet Secretary for Interior announced that the government had decided to send a contingent of policemen to Haiti, Ahmednassir Abdullahi was one of the first critics of the move.
On that day he tweeted: “Waziri has no idea how powerful these gangs are. I thought sending soldiers or policemen to foreign countries needs cabinet and parliamentary approval.”
Two days ago Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi opposed a parliamentarian’s proposal to cut the Judiciary’s budget over unfavourable rulings on the housing levy and the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF).
