Unscrupulous persons yesterday took advantage of an ongoing demolition exercise carried out by agents of Siaya County Government at a housing estate within the town centre.
The demolition is meant to pave way for the construction of the state-of-the-art Siaya Integrated Market. Goons carted away construction material and even household belongings of victims of the sudden demolition exercise.
The construction material included iron sheets, doors and window grills as well as plumbing equipment.
A human rights activist has raised concerns that the exercise was carried out in total disregard to the requirements of According to the human rights agitator the original land designated for Siaya Integrated Market was next to Saint Pantaleon Catholic Church but allegedly that parcel was grabbed by a politician in the County Assembly colluding with a Director in the Department of Survey & Lands.
